Youth Pheasant Hunt – Another Successful Year and Many Thanks

The Youth Pheasant Committee gives a BIG shout out the all the NORCO members that volunteered to make the Youth Pheasant program a great success again!

During a year that was nearly impossible to find  adequate ammunition quantities for the youth to train with at the trap range, several members came together and donated over 125 boxes.  Special appreciation goes out to the following members rounding up the ammo:   Jaye Fitzgerald, Robert Shorter, Jay Johnston, Dick Fontaine, Rick Marrama, Rocco Trotto, Bill Whiting, Wayne Adams, Duffy Lanciani, Kenny Stidsen, Chris Boilard,  Jesse Knott, Mark Malkowski, Bob Hager, Terry Bass, Kelly Dalbec, and Chris Giglio

This program includes shotgun skills training and the program gives a shout out for the dedication of the following members that gave up 6 Tuesday evenings in August and September, to train and mentor 9 youths to be proficient to harvest a bird through trap and skeet shooting, along with safe firearm handling while on the range and carried over into the field: Paul Whalen, Jim Valley, Bob Hager, and Mark Malkowski

On Saturday’s Youth Hunt, every hunter was permitted to harvest 2 birds and everyone did without many missed shots. The field experience was made possible by the outstanding mentors and their hunting dogs:   Paul Whalen, Jim Valley, Mark Laverdure, Fred Gerring, Bill Whiting, Cathy Shirley, M.J. Haesche, and Kevin Newell . All the youth look forward to their pheasant dinners. All of the youth are invited to continue to hunt the regular season, October 16th to the end of November.

A special thanks goes out to Adam Charest and Mark Malkowski for a fabulous breakfast before the morning hunt; and Bill Whiting for the wonderful lunch-time snacks including apple cider donuts and pop-tarts, to close out the day’s successful outing.

Several youth hunters plan to go through the Norco pheasant taxidermy program.
