Norco April 2024 Fishing Derby Recap

Over 50 youth and adult fishermen/women participated in the April Fishing derby. The club stocked rainbow, brown, and brook trout days before the event.  The weather was NE typical, temperamental during the derby, making coffee, hot chocolate, and hot sandwiches comforting to fight-off the chill. Many thanks to the Pond Cleanup day volunteers to set the stage for fun and action in the early morning; as the morning wore on, the fish took a feeding break.

Youth winners for first  caught was Emma and longest fish were tied with Emma and Oscar – 13″ . Winners had choice fisherman gear to select from, ranging rods, tackleboxes, and gear. Every youth had a trip to the lure and tackle table. (Thanks Chris Giglio , Blue Line Lures, for replenishing the selection!)

Adult largest winner was Donnie C., 13 3/4″

Volunteers included Charlie Folckemer, Krissy Larson, Tom MacIntosh, Ed Soule, Donnie Curtain, and many advisors on how to catch and what to use – Paul Whalen, Bill Whiting, and others.) Ed gave a fish cleaning demo.

Fishing is now open 7 days a week, with a daily creel limit per person of 3.  Lots of fish swimming around after the derby.

The next trout fishing derby is May 11th.
